Local U.S. Virgin Islands Website Wins Four Gold 2014 Hermes Creative Awards

St. Croix, USVI—May 27, 2014—Four gold 2014 Hermes Creative Awards have been conferred upon the website www.savesaltriverbay.com. The website’s goal is to create awareness and promote dialogue about the potential irrevocable destruction of St. Croix’s Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve if the planned Marine Research and Educational Center (MREC) complex is built at the currently proposed site. Salt River Bay has been designated both a National Historic Landmark and a National Natural Landmark… a place of unparalleled historical, ecological and cultural importance that is also home to one of the planet’s rarest natural phenomena: a bioluminescent bay. The MREC project is the joint initiative of the Office of Insular Affairs, the National Park Service, the government of the Virgin Islands, and a consortium of universities including the University of the Virgin Islands, Rutgers, the University of South Carolina, and the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

The website was created pro bono by Eclipse Marketing Services, Inc. of Morristown, New Jersey to boost the grassroots efforts of the Save Salt River Bay project. The four gold awards for www.savesaltriverbay.com are in the following categories: Pro Bono, Website Element/Website Design, Website Element/Home Page, and Website Overall/Non Profit. More than 5,500 entries from 15 different countries competed for this year’s Hermes, which are administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals (www.amcpros.com). This international organization consists of several thousand marketing, communication, advertising, public relations, media production and freelance professionals.

By recognizing www.savesaltriverbay.com, AMCP demonstrated its commitment to foster and support the efforts of creative professionals who contribute their unique talents to public service and charitable organizations. Eclipse Marketing’s Founder and President Margaret Boller is grateful for the acknowledgement of her agency’s pro bono work, but states that “I am proud that the judges have recognized the quality and creativity of the work our team produces, and through this recognition, an increasing number of people will become aware of the plight facing Salt River Bay. While I am very happy to have won these awards, ultimately, I would prefer to win the war: saving Salt River Bay.”

Anyone who accesses the award-winning website will be able to take a virtual tour of the bay, learn about its rich history, culture, endangered species and natural wonders, review the facts of the proposed construction and its projected impact, and join those petitioners who are reaching out to legislators, educators, and other officials in an effort to save Salt River Bay.

About Save Salt River Bay
Save Salt River Bay (SSRB) is a challenge undertaken by concerned citizens in the Virgin Islands and on the mainland whose goal is to create public education and awareness of the potentially irrevocable actions currently planned for the Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. If fulfilled, these actions could destroy the natural, cultural, scientific and environmental treasure entrusted to the National Park Service to preserve. While the SSRB applauds the efforts and the collaboration of the partners forming the Marine Research and Education Center (MREC) and their vision to create a World Class, sustainable marine laboratory in the United States Virgin Islands, they invite insightful people to join them in encouraging MREC’s partners to consider alternative locations before causing irreversible damage to a significant ecological and historical treasure.
